Today’s golfing experience is being driven by technologies like smart golf balls, LED lighted golf ranges, and high-tech putters are changing how golfers experience the game.
Smart Golf Balls
No golfer likes the hassle of losing ball in the rough or in the woods. To counter this problem, the Chip-ing Company, devised the “NEVER LOST” golf ball that contains a bluetooth transmitter than will interact with a phone app. The “NEVER LOST” golf balls feel like any other golf ball, but they have a live computer chip embedded inside, that sends a signal to any smartphone, making it interactive. The NEVER LOST golf balls will be available this year and are being pre-sold in the UK, but the cost is high – about $100+ for two sleeves of balls.
LED Lighted Golf Courses and Driving Ranges
The latest trend is the use of LED lighting to light of golf tees, greens, and fairways. Driving ranges are getting upgraded LED lighting systems that include stadium quality LED lighting along with LED lit flagsticks marking the target greens on the driving range.
High-Tech / Futura Golf Putters
Titleist is introducing a new line Scotty Cameron Futura putters this year. These high-performance Futura family of putters represent an impressive lineup of seven new models, including the 5W and 5S; Futura 6M and 6M Dual Balance; and Futura 7M that have built-in high-tech features, including.
- Multi-material technology – with wrap-around face-sole constructions milled from lightweight 6061 aircraft grade aluminum, integrated with precision-milled 303 stainless steel – moves weight back and to the perimeter, allowing for larger putter heads with enhanced High-MOI performance (resistance to twisting during the stroke). These multi-material, high-MOI designs combine with Scotty’s tour-proven heel-and-toe sole weighting technology to increase stability and forgiveness.
- A built-in vibration dampening system connects the mid-milled face-sole component to the stainless steel frame of each model, producing a responsive feel and feedback that Scotty describes as “soft, but solid.”
- Enhanced alignment options – including milled topline sight lines, dual-purpose alignment (5W, 5S, 6M, 7M), new pop-through visual cues, rail alignment features and bright lines framing the sweet spot – provide added confidence at address.
